Red Maple Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Two good things about Red Maple - the lunch prices are very good, and the pepper steak is made with just the right cut of beef. The service is also decent, not great, but good enough. What's wrong with Red Maple? Everything we ate, outside of the pepper steak, tasted like it could have come from any other low-to-mid end Chinese restaurant. Basically, I wouldn't have been surprised to see them unloading a SYSCO truck right onto our plates. You can literally get the food from the frozen aisle of your local grocery store, probably identical right down to the number of sesame seeds on the chicken. If you want inoffensive Asian fusion, this is an ok place to go.

I have eaten here twice and both times it was excellent. The wait staff was very attentive. The selection is excellent. The sexy jalapeño is a great combination of spicy and sweet. The portions are very large making the price a great value. The building itself is very clean and the decor is nice and comfortable.

My co-workers and I came here to have an office lunch. From the outside, Red Maple doesn't look that impressive, but inside is actually very nice. The lunch special was great -- you could get 2 rolls w/soup or salad for $7.95 or 3 rolls w/soup or salad for $10.95. They also had specials on the entrees for $6.95 and they came with rice spring roll, soup or salad. We started off with a round of appetizers -- edamame, veggie gyoza, pork gyoza and spring rolls. All were tasty and didn't stay on the plates long! As for my entree, I went with the 3 roll special and ordered spicy tuna, eel and avocado and sweet potato rolls. One thing I liked about the rolls was that there wasn't much rice on the outside of the rolls and instead had a lot filling inside. However, my eel and avocado roll had way more avocado than eel inside. The spicy tuna was good, not great. And the sweet potato roll was one of the best ones I've ever had. Service was a little whack. It seemed like it was our waiter's first time dealing with a large group, so there were some mishaps even though there were maybe 2 other parties dining at the time.

I cannot believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! Since moving to this part of Silver Spring, I've eaten here at least 6-7 times, for both lunch and dinner. It's so easy to overlook as you're cruising down Colesville Rd and it looks as if there's no parking, but there is plenty in the back. They have both Chinese and Japanese (sushi) menus. The Chinese food is always fresh and delicious, not at all like a typical greasy spoon takeout place. They have so many different signature sushi rolls and I try to try something new each time. My favorite at the moment is the Golden Roll, which is spicy tuna, salmon, and mango topped with eel and avocado. Their prices are extremely reasonable as well. Oh, and they have a full bar which includes some super yummy cocktail options. Service is always quick and good as well. Can't wait to go back!

I ordered shrimp and chicken pad Thai w/no peanuts. I also asked if they had sweet soy sauce and I was told yes. Fast forward, I received pad Thai in ketchup sauce and regular packets of soy sauce. I don't think I've ever had pad Thai with ketchup. This was a complete waste of money, because I couldn't eat any of it. The one star is for the cheap price, which now makes sense, and the shrimp spring rolls. I'm so disappointed. If only I could have Cafe Asia's pad Thai and sweet soy sauce. Not sure I will give them another try- I work too hard to waste my money.

I love Red Maple. That's it. It's close to where I live and the sushi is always on point. Great ambiance, full bar, good service, and fresh, fresh sushiiii! Oh and I appreciate the decent prices- a lot of places try to overcharge mediocre sushi out the wazoo. Keep in mind, they serve Japanese, Chinese and Thai food, so I couldn't tell you about the rest of their menu because I go strictly for the sushi.

Judging from the outside you would expect an old school Asian restaurant, but the inside is very modern. The staff was very friendly and they have great lunch specials. We had the Mongolian Beef, the sashimi platter, and a tuna roll. I though the MB was very flavorful. The sushi was just ok, the fish was fresh. The hot food on the other hand was very good.

Each experience has been a great one The food is phenomenal and the service is excellent. A hidden treasure! From the outside it doesn't catch your eye but definitely don't judge a book by its cover!

Red Maple is a great place for lunch! The lunch special deals are amazing, with lots of tasty main options as well as a soup or salad. I ordered the Mongolian beef lunch special with a salad, which was very good. My dining experience was great as well-- the waiter was attentive, the ambiance was pleasant, and the music was nice but unobtrusive. Overall, I would highly recommend going to lunch at Red Maple.

I was pleasantly surprised by Red Maple. To be honest I was expecting the worst before I even stepped foot into this place. Every time I hear RM mentioned by others it's always the "5PM happy hour" crowd. These are the type of people who choose restaurants based on gimmicky dishes and "ambience!!!1!" over actual good food. These types of people *want* to go to Benihana's for their birthday. Yes, this restaurant is totally filled with gimmicky fried, saucy, over-garnished dishes, mediocre drinks, and your 5PM happy hour crowd but I cannot hate them because the chirashi bowl I ordered was straight up legit. The fish selection was great. The portion size was great. The aesthetics were great. The rice was not the best to be honest, but it was still pretty good. The fish was beautifully cut and arranged and it totally impressed me because I was expecting a hot mess in one of those gross gummy plastic faux lacquered bowls every other cheesy sushi joint sticks their chirashi in. What would have really just killed it for me if they put a piece or two of uni in there (I'll probably ask for it in addition next time I visit. ) I don't think this is necessarily my new "go to" place, but I would love to have that chirashi bowl again. Everything else I tried here sucked though if that means anything (miso soup is watered down as if the soup itself prepared properly wasn't dirt cheap to begin with, "krab rangoon" was straight up cheese and too "open" so the oil got into the dumpling, lychee mojito had too little booze and was just the syrup from a can of lychee and a single lychee and like a single sprig of mint- could have used (more) lime, maki was yet another unremarkable American-style sushi amalgamation) but I can't really knock this place for having such a nice and reasonably priced chirashi bowl. I love you chirashi bowl.

Five stars is over zealous. BUT for what it is a lunch special sushi place it's awesome. The rolls are fantastic, the prices are great and the service is always awesome. I go with my one year old at least once a month for lunch. The duck rolls were great to. Keep it up

Good quality, serviceable sushi. Nothing spectacular, but given the relative dearth of sushi places in the area, Red Maple is a rewarding experience, and my wife and I will likely go back in the near future.

We have our monthly work meetings at Red Maple. They have a nice variety of chinese and sushi to suite everyone. Staff is always friendly and the restaurant is nice and clean. The food is a B+. Not my favorite Chinese or sushi but very flavorful. They do have the BEST wonton soup. The wontons are hand made nice and thin with a good portion of pork. Mongolian beef and ginger chicken are my two go to dishes. Their chicken lettuce wraps & gyozas are also really good! Sushi has been fresh the few times I've tried it, my coworkers only get the sushi. And bonus....full bar!!! Drink up & enjoy!

Came here because it was close to home and wanted to try a new place. Outside doesn't too impressive, but inside looks pretty nice and modern. I ordered the red maple dish, two kinds shrimp and we had an oj . The red maple dish wasnt that great . The broccoli was soggy and the scallops that came with it was on the cold side . It seemed like the dish sat there for a while before they brought it out. I could get a similar dish from a carryout place. The two kinds shrimp was decent . The reason for the one star is because the service was very bad. The guy seemed really off or was probably new. We asked him to add an orange juice and he totally forgot about it and then when we asked him about it he said "i thought you guys wanted it with the entrees" what server bring out drinks when the order comes out. One thing i don't appreciate is when they come up with a bullshit excuse when they could have said" sorry i totally forgot" we told him we didn't want it the OJ anymore. When the check came he charged us the OJ and we asked for him to take it off and he said ok. Guess what .... The check came back and its still on the check . At that point i didn't want to waste my energy with this fool. I just subtracted it from his tips and i was being nice to even tip him something . What a f#$king moron. Most restaurant establishments never read the reviews here on yelp which i think is crucial to their business to help them improve the quality of food and service . Its pretty obvious they don't care if you don't see a response to this comment. Just a thought and save yourself your money and go to downtown SS

This place isn't in the best looking area and isn't a gem on the outside. The parking lot is not awesome, but wow, the food and inside atmosphere are phenomenal. It was a pleasant surprise. Haven't stopped thinking about this place since I've last eaten. Trying to go again as soon as I can! The seaweed salad is really good. It was actually green and not that dark green that looks like it came out of a can. Had two other sushi rolls but can't remember the names. Anyways, it's great!

This place is one to absolutely not judge by its cover. You will probably drive past it the first time you go. It's worth the extra effort to find. Excellent sushi and plated dishes. My only complaint is that much of the staff is REALLY heavily accented, so they can be more difficult for anyone who's hard of hearing to understand.

  • Alexis D.

We love this place and are here at least once a week. We've been coming since they opened, together with our now almost 3 year old daughter who loves it. The waiter always make sure to bring her miso soup with extra tofu, the nigiri comes out fresh, sizable, and delicious. The coconut shrimp roll and saporro rolls are favorites. We actually have dumped our previous favorite in Bethesda to become loyal diners.

I've heard such good things about this place. What a let down! Chief complaints- too much sugar in the sauces and too much salt in the miso soup. I order the crispy beef, tempura (oily!) and a sushi roll. Everything was mediocre. Maybe it was an off night, still, I won't be back.

Talk about a hidden gem. This place is very good. If you have ever driven up Rt 29 past Four corners, you probably drove right past this place and didn't even notice it. Red Maple is an Asian restaurant. The decor is very nice and I think quiet. We decided to head out for date night and she didn't want to go far. I like weird stuff so I ordered the coconut shrimp roll( I think that was the name) peanut avocado roll, double dragon roll, spicy tuna. First up coconut roll. I loved it, it had crunch( a term they call "Crunchy inside") which is either tempura or deep fried, and other stuff added. It has mayo, so be warned. Next up Peanut roll. I have to say it was different and took some getting used to. The double dragon was good also. We will be going back soon.

Today was my first time at the sushi spot. The sushi was great! I made it just in time for happy hour. Restaurant was clean the customer service was great. The bartender was a little antisocial he have could've been a little bit more talkative. Overall I had a great experience.

Let's just say that this restaurant is a pleasant surprise in Four Corners. Not only is it clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated...but the food is delicious! I've tried their Maki, Cali, Dragon, Philly, Cucumber, Boston, Spider, and Rainbow rolls. The fish is fresh EVERY single time. I've never experienced an "off" day here, and even converted a few people into sushi eaters! The crispy duck roll is also delicious and comes with a sweet/salty sauce that's perfect for dipping. If you're feeling unadventurous then go for miso soup or coconut shrimp. My only "complaint"? The prices. They're a bit steep (other places charge you $2.5/$3.00 for 2 pieces of sushi, but for this place it's the going rate for 1). I say "complaint" because the quality is so good that the pricing shouldn't even be an issue. Oh, and they have a fully stocked bar. Just throwing that out there :)

New find and what a great find it was. A little expensive for 2 adults and a sushi loving 7 year old, but really good quality sushi. Very nice waiter. Well be back for sure. My 7 year old said...mommy this place is so much better than our favorite sushi place in Rockville

From Chicago the meca of Asian cuisine. Hands down Delicious. The coconut roll, beef with broccoli, scallop roll was what we had. Additionally crab ragout, tempura, egg drop soup, mango shrimp, spring rolls, cucumber sushi, bottle of wine, Hendricks on ice, vodka double on ice, vodka martini. $160. 6 people, priceless.

This is my go to place for sushi. I've been about five or six times now and every time the sushi has been perfect. I usually get the dragon roll and it's always been very fresh and flavorful. They also very good Thai iced tea.

The sushi is amazing, eat here weekly. If your not a sushi fan the other dinner entrees are good as well. Great happy hour beer/ wine specials. !!

Have you ever been invited by a friend to a new spot, upon arrival, you are thinking "this place looks like a dump?" You are already thinking the worst without even entering the establishment. I was so wrong! We were meeting some friends for dinner and they were running late, so we grabbed some drinks at the bar to wait for the rest of our party. The bartender (mike) made some sort of mango drink (I forgot the name) which I personally loved. There were a lot of people that knew him by name which probably means I am not the only one that enjoys his splendid cocktails. So when the rest of our party arrived, we began to eat. Wooooooooooow! I thought I had eaten good sushi before but the sushi was amazing! My husband and I tried the double dragon roll, eel mango roll, and were recommended the sexy jalapeño by our friends. We listened and were in heaven! Shame on me for thinking the worst! I will be coming back as I feel this is my new fave sushi spot.

Surprisingly good rolls were fresh and generous with the fish. In particular their tuna avocado roll hit the spot. Looks dumpy from the front, and parking appears to be non-existent, but there is a parking lot in the rear. Their lunch special (Mon-Sat 1130-330) is really reasonably priced at $11/3 rolls. Beware however, that it is not on the bound menus, but it is listed on their paper takeout menus. One star also removed because the menu stated the lunch combo came with soup and salad but turned out to only come with one or the other.

Has the best shrimp fried rice in the area, but it takes a little more time than at another place like it. Most definitely worth the wait.

I've lived near this area for years and for some reason I never felt like coming in to Red Maple until one day right after lunch time I felt super hungry and didn't wanna go far but I also didn't want "fast food". I drove around for a bit and realized I should check the yelp reviews for the restaurants in the area. Sure enough, Red Maple's reviews were pretty darn good so I decided to see for myself. The place is super clean and surprisingly huge inside. The decor is nice and fancy-ish and the bar looks decent. There were a few tables taken up by businessmen and women and a few guys hung out at the bar as well. The waiter was friendly but quiet and very attentive. I ordered the lunch special of chicken and broccoli with a miso soup and an iced tea. Food came out pretty fast and was fresh and hot. I'm thinking of going back to try the sushi next time I'm home and don't feel like cooking or having "fast food", although the food here was fast and delish! I recommend it.

  • Jazmin L.

Not the best restaurant in this area for this type of food. I would recommend opting OUT of the Chicken and Shrimp Bahamas - the ingredients were not well incorporated and it was not at all served with pineapple fried rice, like the menu says. More like white rice with some chopped up yellow objects in it. Thank goodness we got other food to go along with it. Positives: the restaurant seating area looks very nice, clean and new and the bar area is pretty large. They have TVs for your game-watching needs.

When we got there the place seemed to be in chaos. The first woman I spoke to just told me they didn't have a table for 5 available and didn't say how long the wait would be until I asked whether we could wait. She said yes and left us there, not even taking my name. Then I spotted another server and told her the situation. Sara explained that the kitchen was behind and that she would do her best. She had us sit at a tall table in the bar area while we waited, made sure we had drinks, and brought out paper and crayon for my toddler (without my asking for it). We had a table within 15 minutes, and Sara was attentive and patient and just plain wonderful all during dinner, so if the management is reading this, take note of how great she is! The food was very good overall. I had drunken noodles that weren't so great but the sushi was AMAZING. My family had Bento boxes and everybody loved them. So, with the good food and the fabulous Sara, it was definitely worth it.

Two bad ideas: 1. Read Yelp reviews just before meal time. There was a really well written one for this place and I was on the road two minutes after sending a compliment. 2. Be retentive about your own rules. Usually when an Asian restaurant sets the cover with silverware rather than chopsticks, you're going to be stopping on the way home for some Pepto-Bismol. Boy was that not applicable here. What everyone else says about the location is true. By the time I came out there was a car vulturing for my space. One thing nobody mentioned is the very mellow vibe. There were five different tables with small children, and not one scream or even a squeal the whole time I was there. I believe the Japanese word is "wa" - harmony, or serenity. Maybe the suburban clientele is the reason for the fork? But I digress... Those who have read my other reviews will know that I am a piscatorial purist who thinks maki is for those who don't really like sushi, and will have guessed my order: a tall Kirin draft and chirashi. Miso soup: medium bodied, not salty, with a bit of seaweed as well as the standard tofu and scallions. 4/5 Salad: mostly iceberg with a bit of red cabbage and one grape tomato, ordinary ginger dressing. 3/5 Presentation: white modern shaped bowl, long shreds of nori echoing the shape of the daikon threads, shizu leaves, sinus clearing wasabi and mild gari. 5/5 Tomago: soggy and too sweet. 2/5 Surimi: as close to edible as that industrial seafood product ever gets. 2/5 Rice: good texture, but totally lacking the requisite hints of sugar and vinegar. 3/5 Shrimp: flabby and bland, almost tasteless, no sweetness. 2/5 Red snapper, white tuna, yellowtail, salmon, tuna. Three thick slices of each, pristine aroma, velvety texture, complex flavors. 5/5. Or should that be 25/25? Best tuna I've had without paying much, much more. Service: kept an eye on me even as the room filled, as unobtrusive as a Kabuki stagehand. I really wish I could give them five stars because of the superb fish, but there were just too many small flaws for it to be the total wow that indicates. I am tempted to go back at an off-peak hour, sit at the sushi bar, lay down a $50 bill, and order omakase to see their very best.

Love the General Tso's shrimp while seated at the bar with a nice choice wine. It is a neighborhood gem!

The yellowfin appetizer was amazing. I have never had fish cooked like that. Sashimi is served beautifully and very fresh. Husband & I can split the 21 piece sashimi platter and an appetizer pretty easily. The special sushi rolls are hit or miss, but there are some pretty great ones. I'm always too full for dessert.

I work @ Four Corners, 2 minute walk from my State Farm office. This place is great! Convenient online ordering, friendly staff & excellent food. The chicken with broccoli lunch special is an excellent deal, entree with side of rice, spring roll & wonton soup for under 8 bucks. BEST wonton soup I've had in MD by far!

  • Jennifer H.

The food is really good, the service is good, and the prices are good, too! Also, it is a convenient walking distance from my house :) The only negative things I have to say about it is the tiny, cramped parking lot and that with some waiters a language barrier makes ordering somewhat difficult.

  • Fred W.

Average at best!! Went for lunch - Pro: prices were affordable, ambiance is great. Con: lunch specials are non-changeable/adjustable, service is extremely slow and very difficult to understand person taking order, food was blah! Will stick to Asian Bistro in Silver Spring in the future

  • Amy T.

I only get carry out from this place because I don't care much for the atmosphere of their restaurant. I usually stick with sushi, and if I go during lunch then I get one of the lunch specials. They have great and fast service. The food is really great. Stay away from the peanut avocado roll, I thought it'd be a fried avocado roll but it was disappointing to say the least. Spicy rolls are great and a little crunchy also. This place would be 5 stars (when it comes to being carry out) but the parking is horrible if you come during a rush! Overall, I will come back to this place many times.

  • Roberto N.

I love the Bento boxes. The breading on the Tempura is tasty, the food tastes as if its cooked right. But, purists may take issue with having many types of Asian food. Me? I like the choices. My Asian Friend? Well, he's a purist, and thought that his choices were good, solid, but nothing to rave about. Me? I liked pretty much everything. Are you a PF Chang kind of person, yet hate chains? Maybe that's the best way to describe it. Great wait staff, good food, good portions.

  • Kimber L.

Wow, this was quite a nice surprise. Clean, nicely decorated restaurant with friendly staff (the manager was greeting customers at the entrance). I ordered the lunch special: 3 rolls, soup and salad for $10. The soup and salad was very good, great portions. My tempura roll super good! I will definitely come back. Ample parking in the back.

I have been to Red Maple several times now and I must say it gets better and better. Service has improved markedly. I will say that more often than not I am at the restaurant when it's not too busy and so I can't vouch for how they handle a full house. We had specialty drinks from the bar both of which were very good. My favorite dish is the Thai mango chicken which I have on most visits. On my last visit however I had the Kung Poo chicken which was excellent. Others at the table had the ginger chicken and the Szechuan beef both of which received five stars. The ambience of the restaurant is good. It can be noisy when there are just a few tables occupied and so when the restaurant is full noise may be a problem.

  • Andrej K.

Don't order any sushi; it's flavorless, and the rice is no good. The miso soup is clear and also flavorless, like from an instant miso packet from an American supermarket. We sent back our sushi entree and got beef fried rice instead. It was better but overly greasy and salted (maybe in response to our complaint of no flavor). My mapo tofu was okay, but the sauce was also probably store-bought. Factors that could have influenced this review: it was rainy, it was 2:00 on a Sunday, there weren't many people around... They nicely took the sushi off the bill, which got them to two stars. Maybe they are better at other times, but we'll never be back to try again (it's not a really convenient location, and there are better Chinese places near our home).

So, my room mate and I order take-out from here frequently since it's close to our house and Spring Garden is tastier but further away and more $$$. There's some definite pros and cons to this place. So let's start with pros: Pros: Sexy-ish atmosphere, very nice and dim, backlit bar area with TVs, but not a sports bar...more classy. Good date spot. Online ordering is great/convenient. Prices are pretty decent for the quality/amount of food you get. I love their sushi and so do my friends. If you eat-in, which I do on occasion, the presentation is creative and impressive. My friend and I had dinner with cocktails, two appetizers and a bunch of sushi and walked out with a combined check of $25 or so. That's awesome. Cons: There is a permanent smell of fish!! Yes, I know that they serve a ton of fish dishes/sushi, but so do other restaurants and grocery stores and I don't get a nostril full of it. You park and enter from the back, near the kitchen, so this could be the reason. Parking is very limited and you have to be mindful to park in the allotted spaces or the owner of the Greek restaurant will tow you immediately. The wait time is also not great. We made the 'mistake' of ordering take-out on a weeknight dinner time and waited AN HOUR in the waiting area as they made our simple orders of sushi. The worst part of this place is that they do not deliver!!! At all!!!! No delivery. Please deliver!!!!! Also, it's alwayssss empty in there. For a restaurant that doesn't deliver, they either do 90% take-out, or they are really not attracting customers. *Personal complaint* Hope you enjoy basil because ALL of their thai dishes have basil sauce!

Don't judge a book by its cover! A diamond in the rough! A pearl in an oyster! Outside doesn't reflect nice interior. Drunken noodles was great. Lots of veggie choices. Eggplant in garlic sauce. Ginger chicken Prices reasonable.

  • Perry K.

Environment: Parking lot is small and assigned parking spaces are very limited. The restaurant is beautiful and modern-like; great ambiance. The place looks clean. Service: Surprisingly, very fast however, we were the only ones on the table area. A few people were on the bar. Our waitress was nice and friendly. Food / Price: I ordered the dinner bento box that contains: miso soup, salad, shrimp tempura, rice, sumai, California rolls and teriyaki salmon all for $16! The shrimp were tasteless but the rest are packed with flavor. The tempura cheesecake is a must have! The food portion to price is equal. The only disappointment is that the soda is not free refills.

So I've been to the place about 5-6 times. The first time was great I came during lunch hour and the place was pretty empty. The service was ok but the food was great so I decided to come back with my family. Whenever I have a bad experience I like to give the place another chance. The last couple of times I've come here the service was horrible. My table had more than one waiter didn't know who to leave a tip to. They've messed up my order and not apologetic at all. We asked for hot tea they brought the tea just left it on the table with no tea cups. The place also has a weird smell. Food is great service is horrible! So I'll have to find another Chinese spot to go to.

Mike, the bartender always gives us great service on our food! Food is outstanding! We enjoy crispy duck rolls. Ask for them to be lean if you don't like a bunch of skin and fatty duck meat like us. Sushi is always fresh and amazing! Steer clear of the overly-sweet chicken with pineapple rice. Another favorite is Schezuan chicken. Also the sauteed calamari with bok choy! A spicy sweet dish is Thai mango chicken. We like that they offer a healthy brown rice option to go with your meal! We are regulars and extremely SATISFIED customers! Mark and Caroline P.

It's great to have a good sushi place in Silver Spring! Sushi rolls are fresh and delish. Lunch special is a bargain. Ordered-out and dined it, it can get really crowded in the dinner rush hour.

  • Tim H.

Surprisingly nice place given the location and the exterior--as other reviewers suggest, it's a beautiful space inside. There's lots of room and just enough TVs around the bar not to be intrusive on the dining room. The service was also excellent and didn't seem rushed or confused at all, which is great news in a relatively new establishment. Well done! We were also impressed by the food. We both got traditional Sichuan dishes, which were well prepared and in ample portions. I think the best strategy with Sichuan food is to get things to share, as individual dishes can feel a little incomplete. We will be back many times I'm sure to sample more things. As noted by others, the main weakness is lack of delivery. They clearly do a good carryout business, as there's a steady stream of people at the pickup counter, but the parking lot is too cramped to handle so many people at once (tip: if there's no space, circle around the block and try again--lots of turnover due to carryout traffic here and the Greek place next door). The price was on par with the quality, which means it's a little too much to have say, once a week. But it is a welcome addition to the Four Corners area and bravo to the owners who have done an amazing job!

Love the inside decor of this place! Really nice, sleek and modern. It has kind of two sides broken by a divider for the bar and seating area. The bar is really big and nice with 3 big screen TV's that were playing the games. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon after church and I was kind of sad it was so empty, there was only 1 other table there and they were finishing up as we sat down. Also when we walked in it looked like all the waiters were sitting down eating the lunch and after we were seated and ready to order we look over and they're all sitting and eating! Ummm... hello? We're hungry too ya know! Took a star off for service. I ordered the wonton soup because it was a cold rainy day and it definitely satisfied my craving. I wanted to go back today for more! Plus it was only $2! My boyfriend ordered the dragon roll and he said it was good, not really my thing. I ordered the sesame chicken with brown rice and my boyfriend ordered the beef with mixed veggies with white rice. The flavor of the sesame chicken was really good! It was really crunchy too which I liked but the chicken itself I felt like was a little dry. The beef and veggies were good though, no complaints. This place is so close to my parents house I'll def be back when I want to sit down for some Chinese. And probably go back tomorrow for some wonton soup! Yummm

So I've been here several times, and while the food is good, the only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is the lack of delivery service. It's situated on two major MD routes and could easily facilitate delivery to the surrounding Silver Spring neighborhoods that keep them in business. The alternative for delivery Chinese/Fusion would be Sui's Asian Bistro off Tech Road. Decor is nice, food service is quick, and otherwise is a very nice establishment.

The cliche: "Don't judge a book by its cover" is the perfect title for this review on the Red Maple in Silver Spring. Tucked away at the busy "four corners" intersection of University Avenue and Colesville Road, you would never even think to find quality dining unless venturing further south to downtown Silver Spring. With neighbors like the Game Stop and Corner Pub, the owners of the Red Maple missed the golden rule of - Location, Location, Location!!! As I walked in (parking is in the rear and there's an entrance back there), immediately, I thought, "where am I?" The decor is modern, warm with hints of Asian motif across a sleek design. At a more basic level, I thought the space looked much bigger than it did from the outside. To my right, a chef was plating a beautiful assortment of sushi and in the far corner a bartender was pouring something neon green. Upon surveying the menu, (try to overlook the many misspellings of both Japanese and English menu items), I ordered a miso soup to start and selected the soft-shell crab tempura appetizer and one of my favorites, Hamachi Kama or Grilled Yellow Tail Cheek. While I expected the soft shell crab to be accompanied by a sauce, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the batter was flavorful and the garnish of fried peppers and onions complimented what was a nice start to my meal. I did request the tempura dipping sauce, but could have gone without it. For those of you who know Hamachi Kama, the only thing better than eating Yellow Tail Cheek is eating Yellow Tail Raw. While the fish was just a tad bit overcooked for my personal liking, the majority would say it was flawless. The buttery flavor of the Hamachi shined through with each bite, The portion size surpassed my expectation and the soy, sesame sauce that accompanied the dish did not overpower the fish, but allowed it resonate upon my palette. I decided to go with sushi, to really put this place to the test. I ordered the Queen Roll, Rock N Roll, and the Sweet Potato Tempura Roll (which I haven't seen anywhere in the area, and I do love sweet potato). When the rolls were brought out, I noticed that the Queen Roll didn't look like it was described in the menu. I mentioned it to the server and he immediately rectified the situation. The chef made an error and plated an Ocean Roll, which they let me have and quickly sent out the Queen when it was ready. The Rock N Roll included avocado and Red Maple's version of Spicy Tuna. I thought it was perfect. While I hear that most complaints come when the dish isn't spicy enough, I thought that the chef struck a keen balance between spice, flavor and ratio between filling and rice. The Ocean Roll, which is eel and avocado topped with mango and eel sauce, was good, however, I'm still undecided on how I feel about mango with my sushi. While I don't think the combination will be gracing sushi restaurants in Tokyo, I do admire the creativity and the inclusion of another flavor dimension, I just like my sushi salty not sweet. The Queen Roll, was an interesting selection with a snow crab salad in the center of the roll and a lightly seared salmon and avocado on the outside. The salad was seasoned well though the Old Bay seemed to overpower the salmon slightly. At $3.50, I didn't expect the sweet potato roll to be anything beyond what it was. The roll was sauced a little too much. I needed the tempura to be crunchy and because of the gratuitous amount of eel sauce, parts of it were drenched to the point of being soggy. Still, I love my sweet potato and would order it again sans the sauce. In conclusion, Red Maple, I'll be returning. The ambiance immediately transports you outside of this busy intersection away from the neighboring McDonald's, Subway and Chipotle. While the Hamachi Kama stayed true to its native form, the rolls were creative and beautifully presented. For those of you who live further north on 29 and don't feel like heading to downtown ss, let Red Maple be a worthy substitute, an oasis in a desert of sub-par eateries.

Revisited this place a few more times. The fried oyster appetizer was not too good. Not sure if the Crab ragoon/cheese wonton used real crab meat or not(tasted like real crabmeat), but it was the best crab ragoon I have tasted. Sushi rolls were pretty tasty as well.

I would be more inclined to rate Red Maple as a 3 1/2 stars, but since that is not an option, I have given it 3 stars as opposed to 4. The sushi, Japanese and Thai dishes are good. However, I wouldn't recommend the Chinese dishes. They aren't made the way I usually have them or like them. The Chinese food is also very inconsistent. It is made different each time. Sometimes are better than others. The decor is very nice, especially for a Four Corners restaurant. The staff is friendly and much more efficient than when they first opened. It is a nice place.

Amazing food and very nice décor! I am so glad I found this place as I live at 29 and Cherry Hill in Silver Spring and there are really zilch around for good Asian food; especially Chinese and Japanese! Been there twice and all is very good each time!

It's a beautiful restaurant, and quite a fancy-looking place. The servers are all very friendly, but that does not always actually translate into GOOD service. We find ourselves having to ask for several items that should be provided automatically (chopsticks and soy sauce with our sushi, for example) and checking and double-checking our orders and our bill. Be careful splitting a bill, I really think that the waiter gave himself a HUGE tip the last we were here (it was a complicated group bill, but we all definitely overpaid). The sushi is good, and reasonably priced ($8.50 for 2 rolls, $11.50 for 3). The rice was a bit dry last time we were there, but it was better yesterday. The spicy tuna roll was DELICIOUS. I am really tempted to go back for another!

A pleasant surprise! The sushi was fresh and good and the low prices shocking! As a designer I wanted to offer them advice on their branding, logo and Interior design. Really ... I would never have walked in the door if someone hadn't recommended it. But DO! It's not a fancy Saturday night date place but a great place for good sushi at a great price!

Very good food. Nice vibe. Best Chinese food in the area. I'm big on Chinese food and I think this is the best I've tasted in the DMV area. I also like that their menu is very diverse. It's also a nice place to celebrate a special occasion.

I moved here a year ago and drove past this place MILLIONS time and did not realized that it's a restaurant!!! My friend decided to look at YELP and saw these great reviews at Red Maple so we gave it a try. The food was DELICIOUS! I'm currently pregnant so I can't judge the sushi for you but from what it looks like (i ordered avocado roll), my husband ordered sushi and they look delicious and he says they're very good. I ordered sesame chicken one time and mango chicken the other time, both was delicious. the waiters on both visits were GREAt, they didn't need to write down what we want, they actually memorized it. I ran out of rice (yes i'm a pregnant pig) and they actually gave me another bowl of rice at no cost, impressive. I felt that the prices on the menu is VERY FAIR and or cheap. I would go back again and again and again. :) I've been there twice already. Shrimp/Veggie tempera was delicious! THREE shrimps!!! most place put down 1 or rarely 2 shrimps!!!

Food is so tasty. Everyone in our group agreed. Definitely one of the better Asian restaurants in the silver spring area. They have a full bar and two big screens to watch some games as well. I gave it 4 stars because the service is a bit rushed

I've driven past this location many times, but until recently I didn't know this was a new business. I came in for lunch and shared the eel avocado roll and spicy tuna roll with a friend. Both rolls were great and so was the service and interior remodel. I can't forget to mention the great lunch specials that make me wish I worked nearby so I could take advantage of them more often. Next time I'm in the area I plan to try out their Thai dishes as well.

I like the service here, and the food is pretty good. The sauce for the orange chicken was really tasteful. What i was impressed was how the the pineapple fried rice came out in an actual pineapple! Seasoning for the rice could've been better. People are really friendly. Ill be there again.

We tend to stick to restaurants that we are familiar with and Red Maple is fast becoming one of our favorites. The kinks that I mentioned in my original review have been resolved. The service has been excellent; the Mai Thai's delicious, complete with the paper umbrella, cherry and orange slice; and the food is consistently good. We took the whole family there last week and we ordered 6 appetizers. They were all outstanding, son especially liked the beef satay, granddaughter thinks they have the best soft shell crab, and I love their "calamari". For entrees we ordered two flavor shrimp; chicken and shrimp with pineapple, served in a scooped out pineapple shell (daughter's favorite); beef and peppers; beef and mixed vegetables; a shrimp bento box (shared by 2 of us); and a salmon bento box. Everyone was more than happy with their meals, no small feat with 7 people with a variety of food likes and dislikes!

I have only been here 3 times but it has become a quick favorite in the Wasp household. I have been to many sushi restaurants in the Washington DC, VA, & MD area and this establishment is one of the best! I would go as far as saying that Red Maple is in the same league as Makoto, minus the steep prices. You may be a little skeptical driving up to this place, but I will assure you that every piece of fish you put in your mouth will melt and every roll will be a piece of Art!

This was my first time visiting Red Maple and I will never come back. Mainly the customer service was awful and the parking situation is a disaster. After fighting my way to a parking spot in the back, I walked in and asked to be seated. There was a waiting line which was fine but what I wasn't okay with was the indifference to my presence by the waitress. She didn't take my name and didn't even tell me how long the wait might be. I went to sit at the bar, and was told by the bartender, happy hour will start in 10 minutes (me and my friend both heard this) so we said we'll wait the 10 minutes. We waited and then asked for a drink to which he replied "sorry happy hour ended 10 minutes ago with a bit of an attitude" It was an obvious lie so we wouldn't be served during happy hour. The mere fact that this bartender was this rude really put me off this place. I really didn't feel welcome or warm here.

We live right next to this place, so after having tried them once for carry out, we finally went in on a Friday evening. The place was surprisingly packed, but it was easy to see why. Modern and bright, this is a nice little oasis for the locals in the Four Corners neighborhood if you want the feel of going out for the night without the travel. Unfortunately, the service speed was a huge drawback during a peak hour. We had to request that they bring out our appetizers after waiting and waiting. Then we waited some more for the entrees, at which point one of the other watiers thought we were still waiting to get our order taken. He was nice enough to check in the back on our orders and then brought out one of them first so that we could at least start eating. The food itself was flavorful but quite far from authentic. If you want real Thai, don't come here. Also, they weren't very willing to make custom rolls for us, saying that it would confuse the chef and take more time. On the plus side though, after ordering soup, sushi rolls, and two entrees, our total bill for a Friday night was $26. All in all, it was just an okay experience though, due to extensive wait and fairly non-authentic food. We will definitely be back to see if the services improves, just because this place is so close to us.

We were Super Psyched that a new place was opening in the hood, and was glad to see open parking spots, so we could fulfill this interview. Sadly, we shall not hire this candidate. Still trying to find it's feet with new, unseasoned staff, we found a few key things amiss. The waiter, had no idea what was actually on the menu. As we ordered items, very clearly, (we hadn't even a sake yet!) He would repeat something else, as if he was living in that dang "Fringe" universe we see people go to every now an then. Okay, a few repeats ( just give me a card to check off what I want next time! ) and we had an order in! As we sat at the sushi bar, awaiting our beverages ( Bartender was too busy looking and typing on his smartphone) we noticed the staff a flurry around us, yet not really doing anything. Dishes waited fro longer than they should have, and it seemed the place was run by the " everyone for themselves!" Mentality. Alright, whatever, flurry around me, the sushi is up, and I am hungry. The quality of the Fish was decent, it was the rice that was horrible. (And as we all know after watching Jiro, The rice is really what sushi is.) I mean, like the used Uncle ben's boil-in-the-bag Sticky rice! Not a pleasant experience. and of the 3 rolls we ordered, one was not even cut all the way through. I said "C'Mon!!" before being hushed by my date. It was, after all date night. We did not feel good about anything in the experience, and hate that it moved in so close to us. We Might try again, yet since the first time Sucked, why bother? My first ever frowny face in a review. :(

Our family went to dinner here the other night and absolutely loved it. We are big time Asian restaurant veterans. We were not sure what to expect, but Red Maple delivered on every count. My husband (who is Asian!) said his pad thai was the best he's ever had; the moo shu pork was one of the best I've ever had; our teenage son loved his sushi plate; middle son loved his fried rice; and our daughter loved her chicken lo mein. The kids swooned over tempura ice cream for dessert. The service was great and the decor is lovely. We are thrilled to have such a top notch Asian restaurant so close to Woodmoor. Red Maple is an excellent addition to the neighborhood!

Definitely an upgrade from the spot that used to be here. We went in the evening, it wasn't too crowded and the service was very fast. I ordered sushi but my boyfriend's Pineapple Chicken and Shrimp dish was amazing. I'd recommend their Queen Roll and anything with pineapple fried rice!

My wife and I were excited about Red Maple coming to our neighborhood, especially when the restaurant sign clearly pointed out it was also a BAR. There was a deep mourning in our household when the previous place and their delicious Cadillac margaritas moved to downtown Silver Spring. Everyone deserves a place 1.5 blocks from their house that they can stumble home from. So here are our impressions: Decor - HUGE change from the previous establishment; almost too snazzy for Four Corners; modern, sleek, cool but without being pretentious. Sushi bar looks cool and neony, main bar is very comfortable and has two giant HD tvs. Somewhat dark overall lighting wise. And the bathrooms were so clean that I would take a nap in them. Food - interesting mix of popular Asian fare - Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai. There are the standard blah blah and Broccoli chinese style dishes and what not, but also some very interesting sushi rolls and appetizers as well as entree type dishes. For our appetizers we went with seared white tuna sashimi and crispy duck rolls. They ROCKED; the sashimi was seared and seasoned on the edges, with a light spicy sauce and placed on a bed of radish strips. The duck rolls were an ethereal delight - no deep fried and greasy mofos heres, but rater think Vietnamese summer rolls of delicate rice paper full of perfectly cripy duck strips with julienned carrots and veggies with peanut/hoisin summer rolls. The sushi dinner combo was quite delicious and very fresh, and even the veggie fried rice we got as a side was good - not too oily and fresh and lightly crunchy veggies. Service - We came the previous week but service was nonexistent; after waiting 15 minutes or so be acknowledged we left when no one came over. This time we sat at the bar and chatted with Will the bartender - very cool guy, funny, and attentive. As this place is still new the wait staff seems to be a work in progress, but they seem to be really trying in that department. Price - reasonable, large portions. In short we were very surprised about the quality of the food, and the prices are great. A nice addition our neighborhood and we can't wait to go back to try more things.

This place totally hit the spot. Good dumplings/tempura, spring rolls, an awesome dinner bento box (tons of food for a good price) and legit sushi rolls. Nicely done decor and good service. If you're in the mood for good standard asian fare with literally something for everyone - this is the place. Very good addition to the neighborhood and am looking forward to doing take out from here again soon.

I'd give the food 5 stars here and the service 1 star if I could. They REALLY need to work on getting the food to the table in a timely manner. And on serving appetizers before entres. And on bringing drinks to the table. And on being in the room to answer questions of patrons. The service could not have been worse, and with kids, it was a painfully long wait. But the food was fantastic. It far exceeded our expectations for a neighborhood pan-Asian place. I don't think the owers understand yet that the neighborhood wants a place they can take the whole family for good food. They have a big bar that I don't imagine will get much use.

It is sadly easy to overlook this restaurant because of the geographic location, the name (I've never associated "maple" with anything other than syrup), and the view of the restaurant from the street. But, if you have a chance to go to Red Maple, GO. It sounds nuts but this is absolutely the best sushi I've ever had. I am a sushi addict, it's the type of food I could eat nearly every day. However, I am pretty finicky about freshness, flavor, quality of rice, presentation, etc. Red Maple has ridiculously fresh sushi and really interesting roll combinations. I'm fascinated with some of their more innovative rolls and impressed with the breadth of the menu (I tend to stick with the rolls but other people I've eaten with say the menu is unanimously excellent). I almost always end up taking pictures of my meal, I'm a complete dork that way. The prices, especially given the quality are very reasonable. Me and another person can walk out of there completely stuffed on $45 including tip. The only thing that's irritating is that it's nowhere near a metro so if you're a non-car owning city dweller like me, you have to be strategic about getting up there (meaning bum a ride). It's so worth it though.

This is the new go-to Chinese and sushi restaurant for my wife and I. The service and the food are both excellent and the prices are reasonable. They decor and atmosphere are also both very nice.

Went there for the first time today. It's actually not bad. It's definitely not the best sushi I have ever had and the hot and sour soup was a little bland, but nothing was bad or gross. The prices are pretty good too. I would go here if I was having a quick craving for sushi and thai curry and beer. I recommend this place if you live in the area or are stopping through, but don't go out of your way to come here.

Tom gum (sweet and sour) soup: okay; veggie chow mein: pretty good and flavorful; veggie tempura: eggplant a little doughy, but good and crunchy otherwise; tempura ice cream: green tea and vanilla both crunchy on outside; tempura cheesecake: acceptable. Service acceptable.

Lived in the food desert known as four corners for a while and was blown away by this place! Food and decor that can compete in any neighborhood so why they chose to move in here I will never know but glad they did. Very reasonable prices given the portion and quality of the food. Wide number of pan asian food options. I tried the minced chicken lettuce wraps which were very good, and the crispy shredded beef. That was tangy with lots to eat. They seem to have Americanized their menu to have the Chinese and Thai dishes a little less spicy and with more meat and larger portions than I was expecting but I think this is a good move given the neighborhood they serve. I also had their Japanese beer on tap which I don't remember what it was called but I liked it. I plan to go back and try their sushi special for lunch tomorrow, which given that this place fells like a Japanese restaurant at heart I bet will be even better than my first meal. Friendly service, owner even came around, I'll be back and I hope this place (which is brand new) picks up and does a lot of business so it can stay in business. I will also consider this place for take out when in a rush. And I second all the comments made by Dan M. 10/28/2012

We had gone to the Mexican place that used to be here and I can tell you this is a significant upgrade. Nice environment, good seating, and a nice upscale bar. We went on a Sunday at around 4:30pm and had the place more or less to ourselves but it started filling up as we were eating. Food was excellent and was very reasonably priced. The Crazy role was delicious and definitely will be a repeat order. Th Avocado salad was also excellent and was a bargain at $5.50 when compared to other sushi joints we have visited. We focused on the Japanese cuisine but from the looks of the food that was being served around us it looked like everything else was good as well. While the rolls had 6 pieces, we were impressed with the size of the fish inside, often the rolls are larger but filled almost entirely with rice. These while slightly smaller had nice large portions of fish that were suitable for the amount of rice and were priced acordingly. If you are looking for a good asian meal at reasonable prices this is the place.

This place is awesome! All the sushi my husband and I have tried have been fantastic. King and Queen Roll, Lobster Roll is money! The Lion Head Appetizer is great. At first, when they had just opened, the service was pretty wack but each time we've gone its been consistently better. This our new sushi hot spot :)

A great addition to the neighborhood. I'm usually skeptical of sushi in an Asian fusion or restaurant offering Chinese food, but this was an absolute exception. The black tuna roll with spicy tuna, crunch and avocado was yummy and a bargain for the price. The queen roll was decent, if you scooped up the sauce on the side. Singapore noodles had just the right amount of kick and nicely sliced veggies. Service was on the slow side and I had to get my own chopsticks (yes, I'm impatient when hungry), but the yummy food more than made up for it. Please go and support this business!

Recently moved to the area. The restaurant looks gorgeous with the mahogany tables and low light setting. We got the sesame chicken and rice & broccoli. Both were good, the rice was a little tasteless though. Overall great experience. P.S. Their cheesecake is thumbs up!

My husband and I go here all the time. We really enjoy their sushi, particularly the sapporo roll, double dragon roll, and spider roll. In general, all the sushi we have gotten there has been very good. We also really like their General Tso's shrimp. They offer brown rice as a substitute, which I appreciate. Their Thai food is pretty lame - go to Nava Thai or Ruan Thai if that's what you're looking for. And we haven't liked some of their other Chinese dishes - kung pao and Szechuan dishes are mediocre. Service is almost always excellent, though we have had a few times of slow service.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am officially announcing the end of the Doomed Quest! Now I need to apologize because this review is severely overdue (think: criminal negligence). Since discovering Red Maple in Silver Spring last November, Ms. Classy and I have been patronizing this establishment as much as three times a week. After many disappointing experiences, we have found our 'go to' Chinese place. We checked out their menu, which they offer Ms. Classy's standard in which she judges all Chinese food: Crispy Shredded Beef. I'm a General Tso's fan, and usually opt for the chicken, but here, I have the luxury of ordering General Tso's Shrimp! I know this may sound like nails across a chalkboard to a Chinese food 'purist,' but a purist I am not. It's good and doesn't kill my wallet so that's all I need (aside from this ashtray, this remote control, and this paddle game, that's all I need). If you haven't guessed by now, the food is very good. Depending on our hunger level, we usually select one (or both) of the following dishes: Crispy Shredded Beef, and General Tso's Shrimp. The General Tso's shrimp has become our favorite. On days where we order only one entrée, this is it. The thick sauce is full of a mix of sweet and spicy flavor and we try our best not to let a single drop go to waste. The breading has just the right amount of thickness and crispiness, and the shrimp is cooked to perfection. I also enjoy the broccoli, with some of that tasty sauce drizzled over the pieces, of course. I've been to many places where the steamed broccoli is a bit too steamed, but they get it just right here. The Crispy Shredded beef is a larger portion size than the General Tso's shrimp. These thinly sliced, thinly coated, and fried pieces of beef are covered in a savory sweet and sour sesame sauce that, like the other entrée, we absorb as much as we can with the rice as to not let any go to waste. If you visit during lunch, portion sizes are more sensible, and prices are more cheapskate-friendly. Unfortunately, their lunch menu doesn't offer or two favorite entrées, but they do offer General Tso's Chicken. You also get a soup or salad to start, and I opt for the miso soup. The sauce and breading on the chicken is just as described for the shrimp, and the chicken is well-cooked and juicy. Red Maple also offers a full sushi bar, which we have yet to try. We're just so thrilled that we found a place that serves awesome General Tso's Shrimp and Crispy Shredded Beef that we cannot make ourselves expand our horizons and try something different from the menu.

Just moved to Four Corners, and was excited to find a sushi place so close to home. The prices and sushi are good, but I was disappointed with the size of their sushi rolls. The rolls are thin, and consist of 6 pieces. My fav Baltimore place serves 8-piece rolls that are much thicker. I am used to struggling to eat 2 rolls when I have sushi... at Red Maple, I was still sorta hungry after eating 2 rolls. Suddenly the price seems high if I now have to order 3 rolls.

This place was not good. I was hesitant about writing a review because I never want to slam a person or people who are trying to start/run a business, especially in this tough market, but this place was bad enough that I felt I needed to write a review to spare anyone who might be on the fence. First, the description says, "Asian fusion," which would lead you to believe the menu would be Asian influenced food "fused" with some other genre. Not the case here. This is simply American-style sushi rolls and some Chinese, Japanese, and Thai dishes. Each stand alone, no fusion going on. So we got two different sushi rolls, pad Thai, and drunken noodles. The sushi was 2/5 stars. The pad Thai was 2/5 stars. The drunken noodles were the star of the show coming in at 2.5/5 stars. The sushi and pad Thai just didn't have very much flavor. As a matter of fact, neither did the drunken noodles, but since drunken noodles already come spicy usually, this watered down version was fine (not great). The service was really slow (place was empty!). The server brought the food out at different intervals, so people were finished eating as others were getting their dish served. The server was obsessed with interrupting to clear unfinished plates. In the end, he brought out two fortune cookies for four people! What's. Up. With. That?! We asked for more so that everyone could have one... and he brought back a third cookie. Oof.

Chinese food was alright and sushi was just ok. Came during lunch wasnt crowded, understood why after eating the food.

had a business lunch here, and ordered the specialty rolls. we were not disappointed. Then ordered some of the more typical rolls, which were still good but not quite the level of the specialties. Also agreed with past reviews that the parking lot is not only small, but on the backside of the restaurant. But overall the food is what this place is about, and their specialty rolls were rather special.

Great food, atmosphere, and wine selection. Needs to improve parking situation. We will definitely be repeat consumers

My husband and I went to Red Maple for dinner tonight. It just opened and normally I don't like going to places right when they open, but we've been anxiously awaiting it since the signs went up (near by sushi!!!) so we figured we'd give it a go. First, they've redone the old, somewhat sketchy Fajita Coast interior quite nicely. It's clean and quite upscale looking, without being snooty. There's a nice looking bar with a few big TVs, which will be good once they can start serving liquor (they don't have their license yet). There is a sushi bar and a bunch of small tables throughout the place. The menu is mostly Japanese (huge selection of sushi rolls), with some Chinese and Thai type dishes included as well. We both got "spicy vegetable and tofu" soup, I got a few sushi rolls, and my husband went for their smaller sushi combo and some spring rolls. The soup was awesome. It wasn't at all spicy, but it was so vegetably and tofuy that I didn't miss spicy at all. A huge variety of fresh, crunchy veggies and big hunks of tofu crammed into the cup with a tasty clear broth on top - the broth was practically an afterthought ingredient, there were so many other things in there. My rolls (California & Philly) were very fresh and delicious. Good ratio of ingredients. My husband enjoyed his sushi and the spring rolls were light and crispy. Overall we were very impressed with the food. Looking around at what other people ordered, the non-Japanese dishes looked really good too. Fresh steamed veggies and good looking meats. I'll probably go that route next time. The service wasn't phenomenal but they just opened, so they get a pass on that one from me. All the servers were very friendly, but you could tell they aren't quite in sync with things yet. I imagine things will get smoother as the weeks go on. It looks like they do carry-out, plus they have a good deal of lunch specials (Monday-Saturday) that are nicely priced.

Welcome to the neighborhood. Good American style sushi. The menu has the classics with a good number of creative upscale rolls. Not a big fan of the fact that nearly every genre of Asian cuisine in crammed into the menu but they seem to pull it off. Nice decor, amazing transformation from the old tex-mex place. Very good service. The waiter had clearly studied the menu.

I truly love Red Maple - I'm there pretty much every week. The sushi is good, the appetizers are excellent (tempura, lamb chops, steamed dumplings - all really good), and the chinese food is better than anywhere else locally in Silver Spring. The bartenders are my favorite. However, they have GOT to do something about the wait staff. I don't know if it's language barriers, or lack of trying or caring, but when we sit in the main dining area, the servers are less than steller. They get orders consistently wrong, and service is slow. I'm a much bigger fan of sitting on the bar side - even at the booths. It's rare that the bartenders get our orders wrong. However, I see the bartenders not only tending the barside, but they are also managing tables in the dining area as well. I don't see folks helping the bartender staff on their side when they are busy. The turn over seems pretty fast too - and I just don't think they manage their schedule/busy times well. Our last trip (on Father's Day) was pretty bad. The bartender had to manage a ton of tables, and a pretty full bar and the back-up of food was ridiculous. Two meals came out. By the time they were done, we had to sit and wait another 10 minutes before the rest of the food came. We got a generous discount - which was an amazing nice touch, but someone (mgmt??) needs to fix the staffing problems.

I would give this 3.5 stars if I could. As other reviewers have noted, this restaurant joins a glut of other Asian restaurants in the Four Corners/White Oak area. We now have 3 very similar sushi restaurants within five miles of our house. I will say that Red Maple is definitely the best of the bunch in terms of atmosphere. It's eerily similar in design to another relatively-nearby sushi spot, right down to the glowing sushi bar. Red Maple seems brighter, cleaner, and more family-friendly, however. We shared the sushi and sashimi platter for two, which is served on this ostentatious boat-shaped platter, complete with a net sail. It's a bit much, but kind of fun! Definitely go for it if you're dining with children. My 9 month-old son was fascinated by it, and I can only imagine how much more exciting it would be to a kid who actually understands the concept of a boat. The fish was good, but comparable to the other sushi bars in the area. Everything tasted fresh and good, but nothing particularly stood out. In another similarity to its competition, the service was only so-so. Our waitress delivered drinks quickly but then took quite a while to come back to take our order, which was silly as there were only three other parties in the restaurant at the time and at least twice as many servers, hostesses, and bartenders just sort of standing around the kitchen door. Once our order was taken the rest of the service went smoothly enough, but, again, wasn't notable. The prices are very reasonable. Sushi for two (with a soup and a salad), an appetizer, a side of rice, a beer, and a soda came to less than $60 before our coupon discount. Red Maple has been sending out coupons for 20% off in the Val-pak mailer the past couple of months, so bring that in if you can find one and it ends up being a really good deal. Overall, I had a good experience here but I can't decide if it's worth the drive when we have a very similar spot even closer to home.

The Red Maple is a 5 Star restaurant at 2 Star prices. We have eaten at the Red Maple 4 times now (one time was "Take-Out") and every meal that we have had has been beautifully presented (to the point of appearing to be almost too pretty to eat), fresh, and each has had it's own distinctive and delicious taste. The Red Maple serves a varied menu of both traditional and unusual Asian dishes and Sushi, etc. at very reasonable prices. The service we have received has always been courteous, timely, and professional. Furthermore, the entire staff seems to be very sensitive to the needs of people with allergies and of people with other dietary constraints. The restaurant itself is large and quiet and very nicely appointed (not to mention that it also seems to be very clean). There is a beautiful Sushi Bar that offers an unusually large selection of Sushi, Sashimi, etc. There is also a regular, but very attractive Bar where patrons can drink and watch either of two large flat-screen televisions. The cocktails are very attractive and reasonably priced. The Bar is far enough away from the other seating as to not be annoying as is the case in so many restaurants. We got "take-out" for four of us for one of our meals. It was packed in an unusually attractive way. There is safe and ample free parking behind the restaurant and it is easily "Handicapped-Accessible." For a "local suburban restaurant," you really cannot do better than the Red Maple. Go and Enjoy! You will be very pleased.

My wife and I have lived in the local area for over 15 years and have seen a couple of restaurants occupy this location. We were glad to see an Asian fusion/sushi bar restaurant move in where a family seafood restaurant and then a Tex/Mex restaurant had once been. I had read some earlier reviews about the Red Maple having a nice looking bar, good food and sushi, but poor service within two weeks after they had opened. We decided to let things settle down a bit before we went over to give it a try. We went for dinner on a Thursday night and were pleasantly surprised by the nice, modern decor, pleasant staff, great service and excellent food. I was also very pleased with the wait staff's willingness to make something right when I neglected to say when ordering that I did not like sesame seeds on my age tofu. The waiter quickly took it back to the kitchen and brought it back minus the sesame seeds - no excuses, no complaints, just responsive service that made it right for me. In short, service and food were great and the price was pretty reasonable. We are glad they opened. We will go back and would recommend it to friends and neighbors alike. A very satisfied customer!!!

A great find in Four Corners. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The sushi rolls were great and so was the dinner bento box! At $15.95, you received miso soup, salad, an entree, 3 pieces of shrimp tempura, Cali rolls (6 pieces), shumai, rice, and fruit! Definitely a good deal. Also had the tempura ice cream for $4. The tempura part could've been more crispy though.

The menu is huge and got us excited. We order sushi to take out, and were happy about them carrying hamachi kama, that is hard to find. When we got home we found that the sushi was not fresh ( rice was hard) and the hamachi kama (tuna collar) was overcooked and very dry. I am disappointed and afraid to come back.

This place is great. Good food, good drinks, and good service at a reasonable price. It is not as cheap as other Asian restaurants but it's cheaper than PF Changs with better food and comparable decor. The interior decorating is fantastic as well. The only cons are lack of parking and the carry out is nowhere near as good as what you receive when dining in the restaurant. Aside from those minor flaws it is a great place that is right down the street from where I live. I would definitely recommend it!

We (two of us) went on the Friday after Christmas. The decor is very nice...a pleasant change from the previous restaurant. The restaurant was not busy, we were seated right away, and our waitress appeared promptly to ask for our drink orders. We both ordered wine. The wine menu is short, but has interesting choices, and we liked what we has (Riesling and unoaked chardonnay). I had to ask for water, which was brought promptly, but because we did not ask for two waters, we only got one. Dumb... Food-wise, we ordered the pork gyoza as an appetizer. We asked how this differed from the pan-fried dumplings that were also on the menu and were told it was basically the same. These arrived without delay and were tasty, but different than our expectation. Nice thin wrappers, but very little pork--not like what we typically get in a Chinese restaurant. For dinner, I ordered pad Thai, based on recommendation of a previous reviewer. I had the shrimp version. The dish had about 10 large shrimp that were juicy and not overcooked. The mound of noodles, though, was over-sauced with an overly sweet sauce. The sauce had a few cooked green onions and a couple of wilted basil leaves (yum), but nothing fresh and crunchy, like bean sprouts. Overall, the dish was disappointing. We like the pad Thai at Ruan Thai much better. My partner ordered fried rice with beef. It came lots of tender strips of beef. She liked it. Our conclusion was that we will likely try the restaurant again. Next time, thought, I will try some other dish. We saw other very nice looking food on the tables near us. I'm keeping an open mind.

Inviting interior, but disappointing food. The Pad Thai was too salty, the General Tso's chicken was fatty, and the sauce was tasteless and too thick. So disappointed that this neighborhood spot won't be anywhere I frequent.

Wonderful first meal. Broccoli chicken and hot and sour were great'. Choice of brown rice at no charge was offered too. Will definitely go back and try other dishes and their sush!

Very nice place! The decor is much improved over Fajita Coast with clean modern lines. The layout for take-away is a bit awkward but it worked. I ordered drunken shrimp noodles and a spicy tuna roll as take out. I waited a tad longer than normal but I was very happy with the food. The quality of the shrimp was GREAT - nice big pieces that tasted fresh. I also got more than 3 pieces as shrimp (restaurants often skimp on the shrimp). The roll was also good, as were the broad flat noodles in the drunken noodle dish (had a nice curried flavor). They haven't been open very long so the food prep seems to be a bit slow but I bet they'll work it out. If you order take-out, I'd advise calling 20 minutes ahead.

Dined here on Oct 17. Food (4): Had some sushi as an appetizer and sesame chicken for the entree. Sushi rice was a little under cooked, but the fish/veg tasted fresh--overall, good. The entree was tasty and a portion large enough for two. Service (2.5): Granted this was the second night they were open, service was lacking. It appeared 5 tables were sat, with a mix of 2-4 customers per table. It was about 10+ minutes until we had our drink/food order taken. Water refills could have been more frequent. It was clear that servers didn't have dedicated tables, and perhaps there was only one true server pulling double duty as a hostess. Ambiance (4): Very nice decor and a classy step up from what's expected given the exterior and surroundings. There are plenty of tables, a sushi bar, and a full bar. We will definitely return in a few weeks. Hopefully the kinks with the service will be smoothed out.

This is the second time that I have been there, and both experiences were great. Food is tasty, and reasonably priced. Waiter was very nice and attentive. This time we ordered bento boxes. Large portions, and enough for a second meal for me. I ordered the one with shrimp, and my friend ordered the one with salmon. Both were equally good. I will be back. I love the fact that it is in my neighborhood. Also, I used a coupon from the mail and that helped as well. It was my birthday, and the waiter brought out a little cake, without any prompting.

Went today for mother's day with a group of 6, no wait time for a busy holiday. Service was top-notch with a very worth noting team of staff members. Food was very good as well.

The food was ok, the service was awful. We both ordered an entree and an appetizer. Nothing was particularly good, nothing was really bad. I had the General Tso's shrimp and it was frankly no better than I've had at cheap take out places. Our waiter abandoned us halfway through the meal and spent a lot of time behind the bar as my glass sat empty. We eventually flagged down another waiter to get our check. Add the cramped parking situation and I doubt we'll be back.

The appearance is a big step up from its previous incarnation, Fajita Coast. However, the atmosphere is not improved by the blaring TV in the bar area. We ordered avocado and peanut roll, chicken with black beans, and sesame chicken. Everything arrived together. The sesame chicken was breaded chicken nuggets mired in a thick gooey sweet sauce. I didn't see evidence of any sesame seeds. The chicken with black beans had nice-looking fresh veggies mixed in, such as pea pods, but was lacking in flavor. Maybe these just happened to be the weaker choices on Red Maple's huge menu, which includes sushi, Szechuan, and other examples of Asian food, but it doesn't make me long to return anytime soon! A plus was our sweet waiter.

We have been here a few times now, and for good reason. We've mostly ordered from the Chinese part of the menu and every dish has been superb. The crispy duck, which is moist and flavorful with cripsy, crunchy, salty skin is the best I've eaten anywhere. It's so flavorful, you wouldn't want to spoil it with any sauce. And if you want a juicy, saucy meal, go with the shrimp with walnuts. I also now always order the spicy tuna and caviar appetizer. I miss Hawaiian poke and this helps satisfy my raw tuna craving-- fresh ingredients, light on the spicing unless you count the accompanying sauces, and a nice portion. The pad Thai, while not prepared quite like you find it in Thai restaurants, is rich with flavorful al dente noodles. Service here tends from the average to the very attentive. It depends on the server. In the evenings, a woman who seems to be an owner or manager does check in on everyone to make sure they are satisfied. We'll keep coming back.
